Bassetlaw Food Bank would not function without the time and dedication of our volunteers. We offer a friendly and supportive environment for those who work with us. If you want to help our mission then there are several different ways you can get involved:
- Warehouse volunteers who sort donations and make up food parcels in our collection centre.
- Volunteer drivers who deliver food parcels and collect donations. We currently need driver support in the mornings collection donations from local businesses 1 hour 2/3 times a week. We also need drivers on Wednesday and Friday afternoons 2.15pm for about an hour delivering parcels to clients.
- Fundraisers who participate in our events.
- Community champions or coordinate collections in their local area.
The Food Bank is looking into new ways to generate income to support future projects such as the subsidised fruit and veg box scheme and a social eating project. To achieve this we are looking to reopen the Food Bank hub in Retford as a fund raising unit supporting an on-line shop selling clothes and collectables, a fashion up-cycling area and a local fund raising base for raffles, cake sales, tombola’s etc. To achieve this we need a volunteer team to bring it to life. We are looking for a volunteer Co-ordinator (this is an unpaid role) to organise schedules etc. we also need volunteers with a knowledge of fashion to sort through donations and others who like organising raffles and the like. Anyone with a interest in sewing and textile art is also welcome to join the team. We operate in a really friendly, positive and engaging environment. So if you have a couple of hours to spare and want to get involved in making a difference in your local community please make contact with your phone number so we can have a chat 🙂
Our volunteer trustees deliver a crucial strategic role to help guide and govern Bassetlaw Food Bank by contributing to active discussions with the Board of Trustees and the Food Bank Manager to give direction and shape strategy.
The role will provide you with the opportunity for a great deal of experience and satisfaction, to develop your skills and utilise your expertise and knowledge.
You might run a small business or have useful knowledge and skills gained from your work or personal life that you’d like to share, or have ‘lived-in’ experience?
We’re looking for people to get involved in leading our charity and to help us develop our services for people in our communities who need them and to secure the vital resources we need to go forward.
We offer an induction to the role of a Trustee. You’ll need to be available for Trustee Board meetings held bi-monthly on Tuesday evenings, together with regular communications and additional ‘Sub-committee’ activities, generally held monthly. This is a volunteer role but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
